Description of the exam procedure

The exam will consits of hand-in assignment describing, discussing and evaluating an entire, applicable survey web-surbey.

Course content and structure

The course aims to introduce basic concept of survey design and address these to current developments in web-surveys and ‘big data’. The course will go through all phases of survey design with focus on how to solve problems hands on. We will discuss

  1. Selecting a population or case and finding a sample
  2. Recruitment of participants
  3. How to construct surveys questions and indexes, including use of visual aids in questions
  4. How to edit entire questionnaires, including filtering
  5. How to deal with respodents and getting data ready for analysis
  6. How to evaluate survey constructed or used by others

 

Furthermore, the course will introduce open access web survey program Limesurvey, including how to administrate surveys.

Teaching methods
The course will be a combination of lectures and exercises, focusing on making the student able to create surveys themselves. These surveys will serve as part of the written products in the assignments.

The focus will be on hands-on learning. The student will be ask to construct questions and evalute these through pilots and reflect on their learning experience of these experiences
