The objective of this course is to recognize, leverage, and manage the ever growing and changing technology landscape within today's digital economy. Organization survival and/or efficiency are increasingly related to the ability to acquire and maintain excellent information about itself and competing organizations. More than ever there is a need for faster access to critical information by all of the decision makers, of the quality and quantity that is needed to make better decisions. These IT resources are integral to literally every business function and activity and it is imperative that future business professionals develop a rich and holistic understanding of how to effectively leverage these resources to achieve both operational and strategic benefits. This case-based course focuses on the strategic role of information, information technology and information systems in today's society. Topics include: identifying the challenges faced by managers of modern firms, understanding the technologies that will help them meet these challenges, designing business processes to take advantage of the technologies, and creating management procedures and policies to protect these information assets.
