Description of the exam
procedure
At the individual oral examination, each student will present
his or her own discussion of how the research question(s) can be
answered and what alternative and/or additional approaches could
have been chosen. The aim of this discussion is to expand the
discussion of the synopsis and train critical thinking in the
academic sense, not to reject
it.

Course content and structure |
The overall aim of the course is to introduce the students to
supply chain stategies and to reflect on the contribution of these
to corporate strategy. Special focus is laid on analyzing
contemporary issues affecting supply chain design and management
such as innovation, globalization and sustainability. Theory to
discuss real life contemporary cases is an essential part of the
course as well as understanding of how to analyze and discuss
theory and scientific literature as tools for analysis and critical
reflection.
Based on an introductory discussion of the conceptual foundation
of supply chain strategies, the course sets out to discuss
generic supply chain strategies, especially lean and agile
supply chains. The supply chain strategies are then explored in
relation to supply chain design criteria such as transaction costs
and core competencies where especially the role of relationships in
value creation is discussed. Next, the course addresses
contemporary challenges for supply chain strategies namely
globalization and environmental and social sustainability. Then the
course addresses dynamic aspects of supply chains, in
particular innovation and change. The course concludes with a
discussion of future prospects of supply chain strategies.
