Learning objectives
The aim of this course is to develop students’ understanding of the principles, concepts and approaches employed in the management of supply chains. At the end of the course, students must be able to:
  • Explain the basic concepts of supply chain management
  • Describe the major types of supply chain strategies
  • Explain the major components of a supply chain design
  • Critically evaluate business processes along the supply chain
  • Explain the importance of information systems and performance management within the supply chain
  • Assess the current state of a supply chain and propose ways how to improve it.

If the number of registered candidates for the make-up examination/re-take examination warrants that it may most appropriately be held as an oral examination, the programme office will inform the students that the make-up examination/re-take examination will be held as an oral examination instead.

Exam form for 3rd attempt (2nd retake): 72-hour home project assignment, max. 10 pages.
Course content and structure

This course is aimed at developing an understanding of the principles, concepts and approaches employed in the management of supply chains. A key element is the formulation of a supply chain strategy as well as the design and improvement of resources and business processes. It includes the management of materials, information and funds along the supply chain. Strategic issues relevant to the management of supply chains are covered. These include management of trading partner relationships, use of information technology, supply chain controlling and approaches to improve supply chain value.

Description of the teaching methods
Normal class activities will be a combination of lecture, discussion, and assignments solved in groups and presented individually.
Students are expected to read the relevant materials prior to the class meeting. The instructor assumes the student already knows the basic concepts, ensuring their comprehension by placing individual questions and providing examples of practical applications.
Feedback during the teaching period
A brief case study will be provided at the beginning of the course. Students will develop solutions and submit them to the instructor for individual feedback and discussion in class 7.

Preliminary Assignment: To help students get maximum value from ISUP courses, instructors provide a reading or a small number of readings or video clips to be read or viewed before the start of classes with a related task scheduled for class 1 in order to 'jump-start' the learning process.
