Learning objectives |
- Identify, formulate and apply adequate statistical and
quantitative methods introduced in the course to analyse different
research problems.
- Identify and employ statistical and econometrics models that
are appropriate for analyzing relationships between continuous and
categorical variables, or both.
- Explain and employ the concept of inference, and relate to
measures of test statistics, critical value, confidence interval
and p-value.
- Identify and evaluate the assumptions behind the statistical
and econometric methods introduced in the course.
- Apply multiple regression analysis, such as linear regression
and logit regression, to empirical data, and interpret the results
(coefficients, t-tests, F-tests, standard errors, p-values, etc.)
appropriately.
- Reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the methods
introduced in the course.
- Conduct statistical and econometric analyses using a software
package (e.g., Stata or R).

Course content and structure |
The course provides students with theoretical and hands-on
knowledge about statistical and quantitative methods in business
and social science at an introductory and intermediate level. On
completion of the course, the student should be able to understand
the methods introduced in the course and apply them to a specific
research problem. The course introduces students to basic
statistical analysis as well as multiple regression analysis for
continuous and categorical variables. The course consists of a mix
of lectures and exercises. In the exercise classes, the methods
introduced in the lectures are applied to empirical data relevant
for the study of international business and politics.

full advantage of the ‘office hours’ offered by full-time staff
members, although these can never be a substitute for participation
in lectures and classes. We also encourage you to ask questions or
make comments in class and form self-study groups to secure peer
feedback on your work. |
