Learning objectives
As part of the thesis project students must demonstrate full understanding of theories, concepts and methods of the program and translate them into a thesis that identifies and solves a relevant problem.
The grade 12 is awarded in cases where the thesis meets the following requirements to an excellent degree, i.e. with no or only few deficiencies. In their thesis project students must
  • Articulate a delineated problem within the program’s field of study that can facilitate and structure the student’s work on the thesis and its contents
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the theories and concepts of the program curriculum and a familiarity with key findings of the empirical literature
  • Show an ability to select relevant theories, concepts and findings from the empirical literature to frame their work and facilitate addressing their selected problem
  • Demonstrate an ability to select appropriate methods to address their problem
  • Substantiate and evaluate the chosen methods
  • Demonstrate skillfulness in carrying out an empirical project related to their problem
  • Show an ability to link insights from the program curriculum to build an analytical understanding of empirical work (bridging theory and practice)
  • Argue for the significance of the choices made during the work with the thesis
  • Discuss the results raised by the thesis project and specifically extract the implications in relation to business practice within the program’s field of study in general and the problem in particular
  • Ensure a logical coherence between problem statement, analysis and conclusion
  • Communicate the contents of the thesis

Examination form Oral exam based on written product

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance.

The project can be written individually or in groups of 2.
If written individually the oral exam will last 60 minutes.

The student’s spelling and writing skills are taken into consideration in the overall assessment of the examination performance, but the academic content is given the highest weight.

Description of the exam procedure

The assessment is carried out by the supervisor and an external examiner. The grade awarded will reflect a holistic assessment of the thesis (including the abstract), the oral defense, and the student’s spelling and style.

Course content and structure

To prepare for the thesis project during the last semester, students will receive a number of on- and offline tutorials on the process of developing and writing the thesis project during the 3. semester. As part of these group-based sessions, students will have the opportunity to present and discuss drafts of their thesis’ underlying problem statements and receive feedback.

 

For the individual thesis projects each student/student groups will get an individual supervisor assigned to his/her project. Individual supervisors will help students shape their thesis project along the lines of the specified learning objectives.
