Course content and structure |
The purpose of this course is to present, discuss, and reflect
on the role of technology in organizations, in terms of both
organizing work and shaping organizational forms. The course
focuses in particular on the consequences of digital technologies
for existing organizations and on the possibilities offered by
digital technologies for new forms of working and organizing. It
takes its departure point in classical and contemporary
organization theory, with a special focus on technology in
organizations, and investigates how digital technologies have
transformed organizational features and organizing processes.
The course follows three main paths: First, it presents the basic
features of organization, according to classical and contemporary
organization theory; secondly, it takes the students onto a journey
of the progressive transformations of organizations and organizing
processes by digital technologies; finally, it explores cases of
organizations that have been deeply transformed by digital
technologies.
