Learning objectives
The objective of this course is to provide students with the conceptual and analytical tools to help them develop their argument in a logical manner.
On successful completion of the course, students should be able to;
• Logically explain concepts and theoretical frameworks regarding the interrelationship between the formulation/implementation of strategies and the international business environment;
• Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different strategic choices, and make a judgement as to a range of challenging circumstances in an international setting;
• Independently develop their analysis of real-world business situations and convey well-argued strategies and action plans; and
• Identify potential obstacles to the strategy implementation, and acknowledge the limitation/disadvantage of a strategy by considering factors that could influence on it.
Prerequisites for registering for the exam (activities during the teaching period)
Number of compulsory activities which must be approved: 1
Compulsory home assignments
In order to partcipate in the ordinary exam the student must get 1 out of the 2 assignments approved.

1. Activity – Group presentation on a scientific article chosen by the course coordinator.
2. Activity – Group presentation on a business case chosen by the course coordinator.

Both activities are group tasks and will not be individualised.

Students will not have extra opportunities to get the required number of compulsory activities approved prior to the ordinary exam. If a student has not received approval of the required number of compulsory activities or has been ill, the student cannot participate in the ordinary exam.
If a student prior to the retake is still missing approval for the required number of compulsory activities and meets the pre-conditions set out in the program regulations, an extra assignment is possible.

The extra assignment is a 10 page home assignment that will cover the required number of compulsory activities. If approved, the student will be able to attend retake.

Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

The course examines the key strategic issues facing multinational enterprises (MNEs) and the push and pull factors that affect them. It focuses on the logic of strategy design, decision-making for strategy execution, and its implementation across borders. The course includes a range of strategic approaches to different business environments in an interdisciplinary manner, with special attention to foreign market entry modes.
