Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

In today’s digital economy, information management has evolved into a strategic necessity, challenging organizations to think beyond the mere administration of data for operational efficiency. Hence, this course is not about how to program or manage databases; we rather focus on alternative viewpoints on strategizing that are more appropriate for today’s challenges posed by the digital economy. To this effect, we combine relevant theories of organizational strategizing (e.g. strategy as practice, organizational learning) with platform thinking (e.g. multi-sided business models, crowdsourcing) into a contemporary framework of strategic information management. As a result, students will learn new tools for digital business strategizing in the 21st century and how they, as information managers, can think about information in terms of business strategy, contributing to an organization’s ability to continually identify opportunities, adapt and learn, implement change, and negotiate the meaning of information in increasingly ambiguous and volatile environments.
