The exam in the subject consists of two parts:
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Course content, structure and pedagogical approach
The course is built up around two dimensions – content and language.
The content dimension provides a general introduction to the “Francophone Space” i.e. the world’s French-speaking countries/regions/communities, their identities, political cultures, economies and institutions as well as their international relations. The course focuses on why and how French is spoken by approx. 300 million people across five continents today; the characteristics and gestation of contemporary francophone identities (global, national, regional and postcolonial); the International relations structuring the contemporary Francophone Space; the International Organization of La Francophonie and the francophone identity in the global order The course presents a basic historical and geographical introduction to French-speaking areas/countries; interrogates the diversity, commonalities and the interrelations of societies/countries sharing a common use of French today; investigates the role of the francosphere in the contemporary world of today. The course lays the foundation of the second semester course - French 2- that focuses on the interplay between globalization and local/specific francophone contexts. The language dimension is aimed at improving the students’ basic grammar skills, pronunciation and fluency as well as and their reading and oral comprehension. Emphasis will also be placed on learning and exercising phrases needed in order to make presentations and participate in class discussions. |

Description of the teaching methods
All teaching will take place in French and all reading will also be in French. A combination of lectures, class discussions and student presentations will develop students’ knowledge and ability to analyse and understand current cultural and social processes in the chosen region.
Feedback during the teaching period
The principal way for students to receive
feedback on their readings and work for this course (Content and
Language dimensions) is through active participation in classes.
Classes will incorporate regular tests and interactive exercises
(MCTs, problem solving, student presentations) as well as written
assignments allowing students to measure their learning progress
continuously and prepare for their final exam. Students are
therefore expected to attend all classes and to come prepared and
ready to participate actively.
The lecturers will also strive to be readily available for one-to-one dialogues during breaks and following each class session. |
