Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

This is an introductory statistics course with a focus on data analysis. We begin with the essential concepts that are necessary for understanding data analysis, such as probability and their distributions. We then cover sampling, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, correlation, and linear regression analysis.

Preliminary assignment: Please read chapter1 of the course textbook before the course begins.

Class1: Introduction and course overview; Exploring data
Class 2: Gathering data
Class 3: Probability concepts
Class 4: Probability distributions
Class 5: Sampling distributions

Feedback activity: Homework midterm assessment (review) quiz via Learn.

Class 6: Confidence intervals
Class 7: Hypothesis testing
Class 8: Two group comparisons
Class 9: Association between categorical variables
Class 10: Regression Analysis
Class 11: Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)

Description of the teaching methods
This year all courses are taught digitally over the Internet. Instructors will apply direct/live teaching through a link (like Skype, Team, Zoom). In some courses, pre-recorded material will also be used.
Feedback during the teaching period
A midterm assessment will be administered via Canvas. The format will be similar to that of the 4-hour Ordinary Exam administered at the end of the course. Questions will be based on the concepts that are covered during the first five classes. The assessment comprises questions in multiple choice and fill-in-the blank formats.
Student workload
Preliminary assignment 20 hours
Classroom attendance 33 hours
Preparation 126 hours
Feedback activity 7 hours
Examination 20 hours
Further Information
Preliminary Assignment: To help students get maximum value from ISUP courses, instructors provide a reading or a small number of readings or video clips to be read or viewed before the start of classes with a related task scheduled for class 1 in order to 'jump-start' the learning process.

Course timetable is available on https://www.cbs.dk/uddannelse/international-summer-university-programme-isup/courses-and-exams

We reserve the right to cancel the course if we do not get enough applications. This will be communicated on https://www.cbs.dk/uddannelse/international-summer-university-programme-isup/courses-and-exams in March 2021.
