Prerequisites for registering for the exam (activities during the teaching period)
Number of compulsory activities which must be approved (see s. 13 of the Programme Regulations): 1
Compulsory home assignments
The mandatory assignment is a 5 page take home assignment.
The mandatory assignment must be approved for the student to participate in the final exam.

Feedback on the assignment will be provided in class.

The assignment will be placed after session 4 or 5.

If the mandatory assignment is not approved or there has been documented illness a second assignment (5 page) will be offered before the ordinary exam takes place.

Please note that to submit the retake mandatory assignment it is a precondition that the student has made a valid attempt in the set activity (submitted a written 5-page assignment, NOT a blank), unless it can be documented that the lack of submission/participation was caused by illness or similar circumstances.

Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

This course focusses on the EU institutional environment and discusses the governance of the internal market with a particular focus on business related policies. It also reflects upon some of the current challenges to European integration and disintegration, such as the origins and consequences of the financial crisis, and how protectionism and the Brexit process affects internal and external trade. Moreover, it addresses some important issues of economic, social and environmental sustainability. Overall, the course aims to provide the students with a deep understanding of 1) the EU institutions and how they interact with business and social actors to produce legislation; 2) how the internal market is regulated and in particular the role played by competition policy; 3) classical and contemporary theories of political and economic integration; 4) the EU policy areas that are of the

greatest relevance for business.

Please feel free to take full advantage of the ‘office hours’ offered by full-time staff members, although these can never be a substitute for participation in lectures and classes. We also encourage you to ask questions or make comments in class based on your readings and form self-study groups to secure peer feedback on your work. You will receive collective feedback after the mandatory assignment and we encourage peer feedback on the mandatory assignment.
