  • 1. Content:
  • Write a well-structured and faithful summary in German of a text, that is, a summary that captures the essential points and arguments of the author while respecting the argumentation line and chronology of the text
  • Show a clear understanding of economic institutions and actors in the regions studied, and their implications for competitiveness based on the concepts and themes in the curriculum.
  • Read and understand a written question and provide a written answer in German that is coherent, intelligible and logically related to the question posed. The answer must be a balanced discussion of viewpoints.
  • 2. Language:
  • Write correct German that is making use of the vocabulary appropriate for the topic, cohesive devices as well as avoiding major grammatical, lexical, and spelling errors that inhibit communication.

Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

The overall aim of this course is to deepen the students’ knowledge of the economic, political and socio-cultural context in German-speaking parts of the world, and to strengthen their written communication skills in their chosen language. The specific aim of the course is to develop students’ understanding of globalisation and internationalisation processes and their manifestations in and impact upon national and regional contexts.

 

The course is built up around two dimensions: content and language. The overall aim is to deepen students’ knowledge and understanding of economic institutions, organisations, actors in selected German speaking parts of the world and to strengthen their written communication skills.

 

The specific aim of the course is to develop the students understanding of the German speaking countries and their standing in the world. Thus we will delve into their relationship to economic institutions and actors and the implications for globalization and competitiveness.

 

Therefore will topics include the relation of the German speaking countries towards the European Union, Globalization and Competitiveness.

 

The language dimension is aimed at improving the students’ written production (grammar and lexical skills, use of conjunctions, and idiomatic expressions) as well as their reading and comprehension.
Description of the teaching methods
Class teaching involving lectures, student presentations, group work, exercises and discussion. All teaching will take place in German and all reading will also be in the language.
Feedback during the teaching period
Feedback will be given continuously through written or oral assignments, both as teacher supervised peer-to-peer feedback, quizzes and tests (online and offline) and as individual/group discussions (online and offline). Students are encouraged to participate in feedback activities and to make use of the weekly office hours for individual feedback (office hours can also be online by arrangement).
There will be 2 written individual assignments that will receive written feedback from the teacher.
