Learning objectives
Knowledge:

Students must be able to apply a number of the theories, perspectives, models, concepts and methods of the programme to solve a self-identified, complex issue relevant for supply chain management. In this context, students must demonstrate knowledge of and a broad perspective on the theories, models and methods of the programme, be able to apply these for the identification, analysis and solution of the issue and demonstrate knowledge of the potentials and limitations of these.
In addition to this, students must possess knowledge and have an overview of the relevant business economics and organisational methods to resolve the problem The students must also possess knowledge on how these methods are applied and be able to reflect on their potentials and limitations.

Skills:
Students must be able to:
• Formulate a relevant, well-defined problem that can govern and structure the work on the thesis project.
• Argument the research questions that are defined to solve the problem.
• Explain and evaluate the methods that are used to answer the questions.
• Select and adapt theory that is used to formulate the problem, and to analyse the issue.
• Argue for the relevance of the theory used.
• Collect and analyse empirical knowledge.
• Explain and evaluate the connection between: problem formulation and statement, selection and application of theory, collection of empirical knowledge and conclusion.

Competences:
Students acquire competences in being able to: identify, formulate, define, analyse and solve complex supply chain management practical issues through the use of scientific theory, models and methods.
Course prerequisites
In order to be able to participate in the oral defense in the Final Project, it is furthermore a condition that the student has passed or are enrolled in all other exams in the study programme.

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance, see also the rules about examination forms in the programme regulations.

The student’s spelling and writing skills are taken into consideration in the overall assessment of the examination performance, but the academic content is given the highest weight.

Description of the exam procedure

The student starts the exam with by providing a presentation and reflection on the project (approximately 5-10 minutes). The rest of the time in the room is spent on a dialogue between the supervisor/examiner, external examiner and the author of the assignment.
Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

The Final Project is kicked off with a workshop, where the project requirements are gone through and guidance is provided on the project work. The working plan and method for the project work is determined by the student(s). The student(s) prepare(s) a plan for how to identify, substantiate and analyse a complex supply chain management issue. A specific problem within supply chain management is formulated. The student(s) is/are given a supervisor who provides guidance throughout the process. The supervisor also acts as examiner. Additional workshops are provided in order to help the students strengthen the different project-related areas. 

 

The student can get 2 extra hours of supervision, when participating in the retake exam for Final project. This is only, if all the supervision hours assigned to the student for the ordinary exam has been used and the students has made an attempt at the ordinary exam. 

 

The purpose of the Final Project is to offer the students the possibility of devoting themselves to solving a major supply chain management problem for which the scientific perspectives, theories, models and methods acquired by the students can be applied.

 

The objective of the Final Project is to have the students gain an overview of the theories, models and methods of the programme, and to have them demonstrate the ability to apply these and reflect on their potentials and limitations. In addition to this, the purpose is for the students to obtain training in working independently on a complex, academically relevant,issue. Finally, the purpose is that the students obtain training in communicating a complex supply chain management issue, method, analysis and conclusion, both written as well as oral communication.

Information meeting, kick-off workshop, additional project workshops on methodology and approaches as well as individual/group guidance
