On completion of the course, students should be
able to:
- demonstrate a basic understanding of the epistemological
assumptions commonly applied in contemporary social science
research, especially in the area of digital research
- critically evaluate the implementation of research
methodologies in published works
- independently apply basic quantitative and qualitative
methodologies
- competently apply basic tools and conventions in social
scientific research

| Course content, structure and pedagogical
approach |
|
This course helps students to understand research methods
as an integrated whole. The course will underscore the value
of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and the need to
make ethical research decisions. Specifically, the course
will develop the necessary critical skills to evaluate
published research, and to carry students' own original
research.

| The course will comprise a lecture series,
exercise classes and workshops. |
