Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

This course consists of a comprehensive discussion of international trade and investment in emerging and advanced economies. It also analyses how key factors related to trade and investment change over time in central regional blocs,

such as the European Union, ASEAN and MERCOSUR. The course focuses in-depth on trade and foreign direct investment. It also examines innovation and international financial regimes. It presents and analyses relevant theories,

concepts, data and indicators pertaining to international trade and investment. During the course, we draw on cases and data to illustrate challenges, strategies and dilemmas from the perspective of firms and of governments, in the

broader international political environment. The course considers crises and developments that affect international trade and investment and global challenges, such as the financial crisis of 2008, the rise of populism, the US-China trade and

technology war and the COVID-19 crisis. It also addresses current issues on the international agenda, such as global environmental challenges and ethical issues in investment and trade.

Description of the teaching methods
This course employs a mix of lectures and exercises. Lectures will cover core concepts and theories in international trade and investment and students participate in an interactive discussions. Integrative cases, data and reports will be
discussed during the lectures to illustrate the applicability of the concepts and theories introduced in lectures. As part of the lectures, students will also work in smaller groups to focus on the applicability of the theories and concepts based
on data as well as cases.
Feedback during the teaching period
Students will receive feedback continuously during the lectures based on their questions. Furthermore, the exercises allow for more in-depth feedback, since the groups are smaller. The lecturers are available during office hours, should
the students want to discuss more specific issues in-depth.
