Course content, structure and pedagogical approach | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Corporate governance concerns the way firms are directed and
controlled. The regulatory backlash caused by corporate scandals
and the financial crisis, as well as growing public and media
pressure on companies to act in a ‘socially responsible’ way, have
put stakeholder engagement on top of the corporate agenda.
Regardless of international business managers’ individual
philosophical stance on what the role of business in society should
be, these pressures cannot go unmanaged and need to be addressed in
a strategic manner. A thorough understanding of the corporate
governance demands companies face today is therefore a necessary
prerequisite in any international business function.

Description of the teaching methods | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course is lecture based, using various texts,
journal articles, cases, and current events and news to illustrate
the topic of each session.
In addition, participants will get the chance to solve three case studies as a small group work, which are to be discussed and presented during the exercises. The exercises are conducted in different formats and can include traditional case discussion, as well as poster sessions, quizzes, competitions etc. |

Feedback during the teaching period | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Feedback is offered on multiple occasions in
varying formats. At the individual level, participants are given
the chance to work independently with study questions, mini cases,
quizzes, mini exercises etc. that relate to each lecture topic.
Feedback is typically provided in writing, through answer sheets or
guiding answers for questions of a more open character, but it can
also be provided in the format of videos, audio files, or links to
solutions provided through the library or online.
Each lecture topic has an online discussion forum where it is possible to ask questions about the material and receive assistance from the lecturer(s) as needed. For the three case studies/exercises, each group that hands in the task receives written or oral feedback on their work. The feedback consists of a guiding answer to the case, combined with comments on the individual solutions handed in or presented by each group. |
