Course content, structure and pedagogical
approach |
This course on International Business and Management is intended
to provide an overview of the theories and principles of
international business and management. International business and
management has considerable impact on modern enterprises operating
in an increasingly global economy. The aim of the course is to
provide students with an extended coverage of alternative theories
and perspectives on firms' internationalization, a thorough
understanding of the key strategic and organizational issues
confronting managers of multinational corporations, and theoretical
concepts on foreign subsidiaries and headquarter-subsidiary
relationships. It is designed to familiarize students with the
institutional, cultural, and economic environments that affect
international businesses and management, showing how managers
develop different responses to external pressures. It consists of
a combination of face-to-face and online teaching (blended
learning).

Description of the teaching methods |
Part of the teaching takes place online through
videos and quizzes. Lectures are interactive and aimed to provide
more in-depth coverage of course topics through discussion of
specific assignments and case studies. We expect a very high degree
of student preparation and participation. Students should come to
class prepared to discuss the assigned material. The instructors
reserve the right to "cold-call" on students at any time
during class. |
Feedback during the teaching period |
For the period of teaching, individual/group
feedback is offered during ‘office hours’ provided by faculty staff
members teaching in the course (see timeslots and booking
instruction on Canvas). Moreover, oral feedback is given
collectively based on (i) student answers in live quizzes
(polling), and (ii) in-class discussion in relation to the given
voluntary assignments and study questions. These quizzes and
assignments are used systematically in each lecture. Also, for each
voluntary assignment the course instructor provides written
“solutions” (available on Canvas). Students are encouraged to ask
questions in class and form self-study groups to secure peer
feedback on their work. |
