Learning objectives
The paper should demonstrate that the student is able to:
  • develop and justify a clear research question within the topical area covered by the BSc Soc programme,
  • address the research question with appropriate and justified choices of theory and research design, demonstrating awareness of alternatives and choices,
  • conduct a literature search and independently explore, review and systematise academic literature,
  • evaluate the literature and discuss where own research may contribute,
  • arrive at a clear and well substantiated conclusion and reflect on the findings in relation to general social, economic, environmental, humanitarian or political challenges,
  • present the analysis in a form that meets the standards of academic writing, including correct citation and referencing of literature.
Course prerequisites
This course cannot be chosen if you also chose a 15 ECTS internship.

Compulsory home assignments
There will be one mandatory activity as a prerequisite for registering for the exam:
A presentation and discussion with the supervisor on a set date by the supervisor based on a three to four-page concept paper that has two parts,
a) the research question and the motivation for the research question, and
b) a text example for the literature review.
This activity will help develop the report and allow for the first comprehensive feedback.

Supervision

 

Supervisors are to be chosen by students from available faculty based upon the list posted on my.cbs.dk. The possibility to do a free paper depends on the student’s ability to engage a faculty member in the idea for the report.

 

Students are allotted 6 hours of supervision, including staff time for preparation and grading.

Description of the teaching methods
The paper is independently written under the guidance and supervision of CBS faculty. The character of the supervision process is to be agreed upon between the faculty member and the student.
For a 7.5 ECTS paper, there are 6 hours of supervision (including staff time for preparation and grading.)
Feedback during the teaching period
Students are encouraged to seek feedback on their work by regularly maintaining contact with their supervisor and preparing in advance for supervision sessions by drawing up an agenda listing questions or issues for meetings or discussions
