Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

This course introduces participants to important challenges entrepreneurs face over the different stages of  developing a new product or business strategy and crisis response. More specifically, this course explores entrepreneurship practices such as the lean startup methodology, business model design and agile leadership in addition to  venture founding conditions (such as business opportunities assessment, when to found, building the founding team), corporate governance (including ownership, control, board of directors, compensation), funding of entrepreneurial firms (Crowdfunding, angels, venture capitals, and debt).

This course aims to prepare participants to anticipate challenges and develop alternatives and strategic decisions to overcome them and explore new markets.

Students will learn through a combination of practical workshops and online content delivery where participants will apply the learnings directly into a real project that evolves over the course duration. The course will finish with an oral presentation showcasing the project and summarising the learning journey.

This course will suit  participants who are employees or founders of start-ups, investors, consultants, business owners interested in new products and markets, and employees looking to upskill,

The course is divided into four parts:

Part 1 defines entrepreneurship, examines different entrepreneurial process frameworks, and explores the process of problem definition and idea creation including talking to customers.

Part 2 focuses on product-market fit and business model development including challenges entrepreneurs face at the early stage of their business.

Part 3 focuses on entrepreneurial strategy (customers, technology, identity, competition, IP, Value Chain, disruption strategies) and how to finance growth. It also explores financing options including the types of investors entrepreneurs should attract at different phases of venture growth,

Part 4 plans for the growth of the company, team formation and company culture. This covers how to perform a basic valuation of startup firms, how to evolve the business model with growth and agile leadership practices as the venture scales.
