At the end of the course the student should be able to demonstrate:
  • Understanding and knowledge and being able to illustrate concepts, theories. models and methodologies on international financial markets.
  • Understanding and knowledge on concepts and methodologies and the practical toolbox in international working capital management.
  • Understanding and knowledge on the development in the macro economic and impact on the international financial markets. Understanding and knowledge of political risks. Being able to asses contries risk profile
  • Understanding and knowledge on international project finance and being able to show an analytic approach to cash-flow models, net present value and IRR concepts

Course prerequisites
Previous practical business experience will be beneficial. The course will link theory and methodology to specific business cases and hands-on learning on financial business issues.

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance, see also the rules about examination forms in the programme regulations.

Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

Business Finance will outline the global financial marketplace and interactions with specific business issuses.  The students will be given an overview of the basic financial toolbox with link on how to solve practical business matters. The course will focus on following subjects:

  • Basic knowledge of the financial toolbox of currency and interest risks including hedging strategies.
  • Understanding of the derivaties futures, options and swaps.
  • Structure of financial risk facing companies
  • Knowlegde of trade finance including key documents in an export transaction
  • Understanding of foreign direct investment and political risk including assesment of country risk
  • Knowledge of working capital and tools to reduce bindings in working capital
  • Understanding of company valuation including knowledge of cash-flow budgeting, net present value and multiples
Description of the teaching methods
Online dialogs, break out sessions, cases and quizzes. Student involvement is important to benefit from the course.
Feedback during the teaching period
Spot-on feedback during sessions and during case solving. Teacher will be available after each session for a personal feedback.
