| Learning objectives |
At the end of the Practical Seminar, the students
should be able to:
- Formulate a research problem and suggest how to analyze
it.
- Identify, explain and assess the business challenges related to
the problem
- Place the problem in a theoretical context
- Explain and specify the use of concepts, theories, models and
analytical frameworks in relation to the problem at the
intersection between, for example, a company and society
- Provide reasons for the choice of method(s) selected for the
analysis of the problem. Be able to assess and discuss methodical
validity and reliability of the field of research.
- Search for sources in relation to the problem also outside the
mandatory curriculum.
- Participate actively in the seminar series and present results
and criticism in an orderly and convincing
manner.

assignments
The following activities all constitute conditions for registering
for the exam.
First, the submission of a max.15 pages draft of the final
assignment in January.
Second, provide an oral presentation defending the draft at the
seminar in January.
Third, participate in the same seminar as opponent on the other
participants’ assignments.
The draft of the final assignment constitutes the background for an
oral critical feedback and comments for other students’ drafts at
the January seminar. The student must fulfil all the above
requirements in order to participate in the exam.
The assignment draft of max. 15 pages is sent to the entire class
at least two weeks before the first seminar.The assignment draft is
presented orally for at least 10 minutes at the seminar and
receives 30 minutes oral and written critical feedback from both
fellow students and supervisor(s). The seminar consists of four to
eight students who at the seminar take turns giving presentations.
Students who are unable to submit material before the specified
date or are absence at the seminar due to illness or the like
(documentation is required) must submit a 15 pages draft at a
specified date in order to participate in the exam.

The make-up exam takes the form of a written project of 30-35 pages
in total.
The make-up exam should be on the same topic as the seminar report
and should be submitted no later than 14 days after the original
submission deadline or seminar meeting/treatment.

Description of the exam
procedure
The assessment is based on an individual written assignment of
max. 20 pages.
A grade is awarded according to the 7-point grading scale by the
supervisor. This is done after the assignment has been finally
submitted in early February after being revised in accordance with
the critical feedback provided in fellow students and supervisor at
the seminars in January.

| Course content, structure and pedagogical
approach |
|
The purpose of this seminar series in November and December
is to provide the students with experience in how to write an
academic project.
The seminar series integrates knowledge and skills from the other
courses and assignments in the program. When preparing for the
practical seminars, the focus will be on problem clarification as
well as on methods, theories and processes. The seminar series is
thus a significant training element for preparing for the final
project in the 4th semester. The main emphasis in the seminar work
is put on research design rather than actual analysis, which are to
be conducted in the final project.
The program will prepare the students for the Practical Seminars.
Before the seminar series, the course coordinator provides an
introductory lecture. Here the seminar series as well as central
academic methods will be presented. Before the first seminar a
meeting will be held where students can meet with their
supervisor(s). Two hours of supervision per student are allocated
to the preparation of the seminar assignment, including the time
the supervisor spends on preparation.
It is expected that the students themselves suggest a topic and
company other than the one in which they are employed, which then
has to be approved by the course coordinator.
The students must participate actively in the seminars and offer
independent and critical feedback as well as alternative and/or
constructive reflections to support their fellow students.
The author of a draft assignment present it to the group under the
supervisor’s supervision. The supervisor ensures that the
assignment is discussed in an appropriate academic and pedagogical
manner.
Further guidelines for the assignment, discussion paper and
seminars are stated in the program regulations as well as the
seminar manual.
The introductory lecture is expected to be held in the beginning
of November 2022.

| Description of the teaching methods |
| Teaching and student presentations in seminars
aims at facilitating independent argumentation and assessment among
students. For this reason, seminar classes consisting of 4-8
students will be established. The dialogue-oriented structure and
smaller classes should allow for an active and intensive
course. |
