Knowledge:
The project work gives students knowledge about how to identify, formulate and analyse an SCM issue with a view to creating value for one or more enterprises. In addition to this, students gain knowledge on how a literature review can be carried out and how the competences acquired during the first year of study of Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management can be applied in a specific practice.

Skills:
Students must be able to:
• Formulate a relevant, well-defined and a real issue-solving problem that can govern and structure the work on the project.
• Carry out and describe a literature review that is adequate for the identified problem.
• Select, describe and apply a method of investigation that is suitable for the formulated research questions.
• Select, introduce, combine and apply relevant theories and analytical models related to one or more of the courses or the disciplines of the first year of study of the Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management.
• Collect own empirical knowledge in the form of interviews, observations, questionnaires, data from enterprises and/or other sources.
• Perform a thorough and structured analysis of the chosen problem.
• Answer the research questions and provide reflections on the identified problem.
• Prepare a well-defined implementation plan for the recommended solution.
• Explain the organisation and management of the project work.
• Present the results of the project in a clear and convincing way.

Competences:
Students acquire competences in performing SCM analyses that rest on a solid methodological and theoretical basis. With this competence, students obtain the basis for being able to perform a good analysis of SCM-related problems in their own enterprise.

Examination form Oral exam based on written product

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance, see also the rules about examination forms in the programme regulations.

This exam then is individual for both the written product and the oral exam.

Make-up exam/re-exam
Same examination form as the ordinary exam
The re-exam exam shall be based on the same project as the ordinary exam:

- If an individual student fails, the oral exam she/he will receive feedback from the supervisor before she/he hand in a revised project for the retake exam.

- If a student is absent from the oral exam due to documented illness but has been a part of handing in the project report, she/he does not have to write a new project but re-submit the original project for the retake exam.
- If a student in a group fails, the oral exam she/he can only re-submit the original project for the re-take exam.
- If a whole group fails, they will receive feedback from the supervisor before they hand in a revised project for the retake exam.

The re-take exam is held in August / September.

Description of the exam procedure

The invididual oral exam is based on the project but may include other theories and models that could have been applied for the analysis and solution of the issue defined. At the exam, an overall evaluation is made of the written and the oral performance.

 

The exam lasts 20 minutes per student. It is expected that you start the examination by presenting the end results and providing a perspective on them. After the initial presentation, the rest of the examination is a dialogue between the supervisor/examiner, external examiner and the author of the assignment. The examiners discuss the student’s performance, grading and feedback in last 5 minutes of the examination.

 

Research question

A preliminary problem formulation of the size of 1-2 pages should be prepared and must contain:

 

  • Description of the problem area (What is the challenge/dilemma and for whom?).
  • Formulation of the research question, and sub-questions, if any.
  • Statement of the theories and models, an application of which is aimed for.
  • A description about how the student(s) will metodologically deal towards reaching a solution to the problem
     

Supervision

One of the teachers attached to the programme acts as supervisor on the project. The supervisor is assigned by the course coordinator.
 

Supervision will be given to all groups.

Please see supervision hours allocated below based on group size:

2-4 students = 6 hours
1 student  =  3 hours 

Supervision concentrates on discussion of the final research question and the application of theory. The supervisor is not to read through drafts for all parts of the report, but it is important that students receive feedback from the supervisor on some of their analyses along the way. It is the responsibility of the students to contact the supervisor and be in charge of the supervision process.
Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

The purpose of the course is to give students knowledge, skills and competences in problem-solving supply chain management (SCM) analysis that rests on a solid methodological and theoretical basis.

 

The course consists of two parallel work parts. One part of the course consists of workshops where the relevant aspects of the project work are introduced and discussed. In the other part, students individually or in a project group carry out the project work as such in accordance with the instructions from the workshops. Students may consult the supervisor related to the project on an ongoing basis. By way of conclusion, the project is reported on in writing in a project report.

 

Teaching principles and methods: The students commence their project work after a common project start-up in the form of dialogue-based workshops, independently or in a project group and may contact the supervisor related to the project on an ongoing basis.

If the special situation requires this, students can ask for permission to write the project in Danish. In that case, also the oral exam will be in Danish.
