Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

In recent years, more companies operating across national borders are employing an increasing number of in-house lobbyists and public policy professionals to support organizational goals.

The emergence of International Lobbying raises several dilemmas we will discuss throughout the course:

  • Strategic internal and external value creation: What are successful lobbying activities, and how are such activities measured?

  • Culture & communication: What are the cultural factors determining the failure or success of lobbyism?

  • Ethics, power & democracy: Who benefits from public policy interventions and are the rules of political engagement serving the public's interests?

  • Management & organizational integration: How are corporate public policy professionals supported or hindered from working effectively with colleagues in other departments within the company?

This course will challenge your practical and intellectual senses. Practically, you will learn how to create an effective international lobby plan as you will learn the dos and don'ts from real-life cases. And intellectually, you will be part of course not afraid of asking the big questions starting with "why" and "how" without definite answers.
