Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

In eight sessions, including a double-session kickoff, we will discuss how globalization and the international business environment influence firms. The double-session with which we kick off the course will cover globalization and classical trade theory. Session 3 will introduce modern trade theory, and session 4 will put international business in context with the system of supranational institutions and global business conglomerates. Session 5 will highlight the role of oligopolistic competition and session 6 will focus on the global strategies that companies can use to retain an edge in the global economy. Session 7 will investigate current trends and patterns in foreign direct investment, and session 8 will provide insights into emerging markets with a focus on China.

Description of the teaching methods
A combination of on-campus and online teaching - 6 online sessions and one double session on campus.
Feedback during the teaching period
We will use mini-cases throughout the course, and students will have to share their thoughts on the strategies and perspectives companies can take in the environment we investigate.
