Course content, structure and pedagogical
approach |
Todays’ corporate technological leaders are operating across
international markets.
They not only run the highest budgets for research and development
(R&D) but also orchestrate knowledge integration and innovation
at an international level.
This course starts by facilitating an appreciation of technology as
an integral part of the competitive firm strategy.
It explores the nature of the innovation process and its relation
to markets, technology, and the firm. Thereby, it highlights
opportunities and challenges involved in the innovation process of
multinational firms, proceeds by discussing the impact of
disruptive digital technologies such as social media, AI,
blockchain, Internet-of-Things as well as platforms as
organizational innovation.
Students develop insights into how incumbent multinational
enterprises adjust to disruptive digital technologies as well as
and how younger digital firms interact with international
markets.

Description of the teaching methods |
This course is taught in Harvard-style case
method, which involves energetic class discussion and interaction.
A considerable share of class time is devoted to case discussion.
Case discussion is complemented by lectures that summarize and
provide additional insights on the class topic. Students develop
knowledge through in-class case discussions. Thus, preparation and
class participation are essential for students to do well in the
course.
The group examination activates students to deepen conceptual as
well as factual knowledge in the context of a project of their
choice within the scope of the course syllabus. |
Feedback during the teaching period |
Students will receive feedback from the
instructor each class during case discussions. |
