In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance, see also the rules about examination forms in the programme regulations.

Re-take exam is to be based on the same report as the ordinary exam:

* if a student is absent from the oral exam but has handed in the written group product she/he does not have to submit a new product for the re-take.
* if a whole group fails the oral exam they must hand in a revised product for the re-take.
* if one student in the group fails the oral exam the course coordinator chooses whether the student will have the oral exam on the basis of the same product or if he/she has to hand in a revised product for the re- take.
Description of the exam procedure

Students have to form groups of four or five and choose a case company and case innovation for analysis. The exam includes a description and analysis of the chosen case as well as a discussion and reflection jointly prepared by the students in the group. The structure of the exam is introduced to the students at the beginning of the semester. At the oral exam, students briefly discuss their report. The dialogue with the examiners will focus on the report but also include the entire course curriculum as it relates to the chosen case.

Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

Objective: This course builds analytical insight into relationships between knowledge, innovation and competitiveness and into their implications for the management of innovation.
Content: The course introduces theories, concepts, and methods for the analysis of innovations at the levels of projects, firms and industries. The course also introduces a set of tools related to innovation practices of firms, as one of the ways in which the course bridges and integrates academic analysis of innovations with the practical issues of their management.

 

Description of the teaching methods
This course applies blended learning principles, i.e. the combination of pre-recorded online teaching with face-to-face teaching. The course features lectures and case discussions. Moreover, students form groups of four or five to analyze a recent innovation in a specific company based on interviews and desk research in order to prepare for the exam.
Feedback during the teaching period
Written home assignment: Students form groups of four or five to submit a written assignment. The assignment is a preparation for the exam. It is jointly prepared by the group and submitted by a specific deadline. Written feedback will be provided.

There is continuous feedback to students based on case analyses and exercises in class.
