Learning objectives |
- Describe and apply the concepts and theories presented
throughout the course both theoretically and practically, such as
within a case.
- Analyze a change related issue by identifying key problem
areas, and select and apply appropriate management tools to suggest
plausible solutions.
- Apply relevant concepts and theories to analyze a particular
change issue within a global organization.
- Demonstrate the ability to critically discuss key concepts in
relation to a given change initiative.
- Critically reflect on the use of qualitative research methods
to examine a change issue.

Oral exam based on written product
In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product
must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The
grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and
the individual oral performance, see also the rules about

There are four different scenaria
for the re-exam:
1) if a student is absent from the oral exam due to documented
illness but has been part of handing in the report s/he does not
have to submitt a new project report, but MUST hand in the same
project report AGAIN for the re-exam.
2) if an individual student fails the oral exam she/he does not
have to submitt a new project report, but MUST hand in the same
project report AGAIN for the re-exam.
3) if a whole group fails they must hand in a revised report for
the re-take.
4) If you haven't handed in anything for the ordinary exam. You
will hand in a project report for the
re-exam.

Course content, structure and pedagogical
approach |
Managing change in global organizations is the core theme within
this course, which aims at providing a broad understanding of the
key challenges organizations have to grapple with when implementing
change. Areas to be explored during the course, but not limited to,
may include: change management models, field level change, business
model change, identity and image change, new ways of organizing,
paradoxical tensions, cultural change programs and group
dynamics.
The aims of the course are to:
- provide students with a critical understanding of theory and
practice in relation to change management within global
organizations;
- develop an appreciation of the major current themes and debates
in the field of change management;
- give students an understanding of the main concepts and models
that underpin change management;
- assess the cultural and political factors that shape change
initiatives in global organizations;
- assess the issues associated with the design and implementation
of change initiatives, and their impact on employees, and;
- provide students with an understanding of qualitative research
methods to examine change in a global context.

Description of the teaching methods |
The course will consist of lectures, group work,
case discussion and workshops. Active preparation and participation
are expected from the students. |
Feedback during the teaching period |
Students will receive ongoing feedback from the
lecturers throughout the duration of the course, e.g. interactive
teaching formats, in-class case discussion, feedback on
presentations both individually and in groups. Lecturers will be
available for individual or group feedback in both lecture breaks
and following each lecture session. In addition, students may
arrange meetings during specified office hours for further
consultation. |
