Learning objectives | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the
following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or
errors:
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Course prerequisites | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Some knowledge about organisation and communication.
Examination | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Course content and structure
During the course the students will be introduced to the main paradigms of the philosophy of science that influence modern internal communication in organizations and at the same time reflect the development in society through the last 100 years. At the centre of this stands positivism versus social constructivism in the forms of classic management and organizational theory versus constructivism, including systemic and narrative theory.
The course will work with important themes within management and employee communication
The students will obtain insight in the organizational effect of the development of the postmodern information society along with what has changed in structure, economy, leadership, and management in Danish and in global organizations. The goal is to train the students' ability to analyse the consequences of this development on the internal relation and communication between leadership and employees.
During the course, students will train their competences in identifying and analysing central communicative and leadership oriented problems which the organizations and the employees are experiencing. The students are asked to find and select fragments of theory that can be used to analyse the chosen problems, conclude, and finally suggest possible solutions to strengthen the internal communication in the organization. |

Teaching methods | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
The classroom activities will be a mix of teacher
presentation, group, and plenum dialogue plus exercises. Active
participation from students is required and therefore preparation
in form of reading the announced texts for each lecture is
essential for the dialogue in class. The teacher role is more of a
facilitator than a one-way communicating lecturer. The students
must therefore be prepared to engage in group discussions around
small cases from organizations including the students' own
experiences from workplaces. Since the course aims to make a bridge
between theory and practice, it is essential to engage and bring
one's own experiences into the classroom. In analyzing one’s
own, and fellow students', workplace examples, the course
teaches how to find the connections between theory and practise.
The business community demands students who can transform their qualifications into competences immediately – that means use them in practice. We train this bridging during the course. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Feedback during the teaching period
To enhance the bridging between theory and
organizational practice the students participation and engagement
in the classroom activities will be adressed. Feedback will also be
given during the exam training via group case execises by the end
of the term.
