Course content, structure and pedagogical approach
Content, structure:
Comparisons are made between management approaches and leadership and the way they may differ or overlap in various organizational settings.
Prominent social thinkers and their impact on the leadership concepts of transformational, charismatic, authentic, transactional, and ethical leadership are fully explored. Creating narratives, empathy, improvisation and persuasive argumentation are focused through these leadership models.
The course takes full advantage of its theory-practice structure in order to fully understand the domestic-global implicaions of leadership. Sessions are devoted to students presentations (not graded) in the form of discussing political and business leaders from the student's own individual country. We then discuss the presentation and give feedback relating individual leaders or managers to the relevant models. Cultures of different countries encourage and tolerate different standards and this becomes apparent in the ease or difficulty of international leader relationships and the iconic images resented to the public. In other words, both the psychology of the leader and the public persona will be open to scrutiny. |

Description of the teaching methods
There will be two directions in teaching the
course.
One will take the form of lectures, in-depth discussion of key texts, and a clear elaboration of their significance within a social and business context. The other will be practise oriented where groups of students will take up various role-playing to become familiar with the leader-follower duality. Special attention will be paid to the use of effective argumentation, and the necessary language required to effectuate a successful leadership role. Peer response and evaluation will be encouraged |
